That is some fast turn-around! Were there lots of submissions? Who were your reviewers?

I/eye am really glad I stumbled across the website today. I look forward to seeing what follows.

I guess promises of slightly burnt Zweigles and refreshingly cold Saranac Pale Ales didn’t help me any? Or perhaps my narratives frightened David and Ethan away.
Nice cohesive selection though, look forward to final product. Have fun!

George,
Ethan and I reviewed all of the work with Cig Harvey for close to 7 hours on Friday. We had right around 200 submissions and the quality of work was excellent. I believe Ethan is going to be making a blog post about the review process so stay tuned.

I admire that efficiency, Dave. Lean and (not so) mean. And the commitment you all have made to the selectees is very impressive. I’ll try to check back in for the post about the review process.

Thanks, George. We’re looking forward to hitting the road and meeting the selected finalists as well as a few special guests. It’s going to be quite the adventure; an exploration of not only photography but also ourselves and the landscape.

I ran across your site a couple of weeks ago and was skeptical: some more kids and another online thing.
But great curating . . . real fresh work, and varied . . . I had been starting to get depressed about the quality of work out there on the internets . . . now I wished I had applied.
Good job. Hope you do it again next year . . . and I bet you will get more submissions.
Thanks.

This is a very male dominated list.
What gives?

Susan,
I think that there are two reasons.
1. More men applied so the odds are that more would get accepted.
2. It was an anonymous review, we did not know the sex, name, age, location or anything else of the applicant until we reviewed the bios which was the last step of the evaluation process.
While you could argue that Pause, to Begin is run by two young men and that is somehow reflected in the results of picking 10 men to 5 women; I would say that we had a guest female juror, Cig Harvey, that really helped us make some of the most difficult selections at the end, and we trust her opinion.
In the end, we believe that we picked the best overall work, regardless of sex.
